So many of us take the opportunity on New Year’s Eve to reflect on the past year and appreciate the brighter points, but also to contemplate those which could be improved upon. Since our careers are such a major part of our lives, it is no wonder that we consider January the month to spruce up our company website, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. And given that our styles change so much from year to year, it’s a certainty that we’ll want a professional portrait that captures our fresh updated looks. But when I talk to many of my friends, some are hesitant to get an updated portrait because they have become a little older and are not a big fan of showing off those newly acquired smile lines or those stubborn extra pounds. While many of us would love to stay 30 forever, the technology just hasn’t gotten us there yet. But in the meantime, for the forever-young-at-heart, we’ve gotten quite handy with the magic of Photoshop. And while a few of y’all might jump at the chance to take those smile lines and extra pounds away completely, I actually prefer the portraits I take to look like you do now, with all your character intact, but with just a little polishing to showcase a vision of you that, while authentic, still looks like you just woke up from the most well rested night of your life…like a Folgers coffee commercial! But seriously, your portrait should reflect not only who you are, but also should convey the polished look of someone in your profession. What that means for me as the photographer is that in addition to my innate curiosity, I feel a duty to get to know you and your profession so that we can come up with a unique portrait that isn’t cookie cutter, and reflects exactly what you want your photo to say about you. So someone running for an elected office this year won’t be in the same clothing, pose, etc. as an individual who is say a realtor or personal injury attorney. One of my favorite things about being a professional photographer in Houston is that I get to meet such a variety of people. I have photographed for many Houston realtors, attorneys, engineers, judges, artists, doctors, professors, dentists, scientists, models, actors, personal trainers, law firms, professional dancers and even some highly unique professions such as hypnotist and high end aircraft sales. Houston is a melting pot of diversity and a leader in so many fields; I am so proud to be a Houstonian and thankful every year to continue photographing all these incredible individuals. I still offer complimentary consultations where we discuss things like:
- The look you want to convey
- The right location: Your office? Our studio? An outdoor location, perhaps?
- Clothing, hair and makeup
- Props of any kind
- How photo will be viewed (billboard, magazine ad, Facebook, etc.)
