Houston is home to so many great people. One of the names that comes to mind when you say hometown hero is Craig Biggio. I’ve photographed him several times through the years and he is just so real and genuine. He cares about Houston and it’s community of people. Biggio came to the major leagues with the Astros in June of 1988. Biggio joined the 3,000-hit club in 2007, his last year in the big leagues. In all, he spent 20 seasons with the Astros. He is the only player in baseball history with at least 3,000 hits, 600 doubles, 400 stolen bases and 250 home runs. And for all of this he will be inducted July 26 as part of the Hall of Fame’s Induction Weekend July 24-27 in Cooperstown, N.Y. So congratulations to Craig Biggio for this long overdue honor! And Houston is so honored to have Craig as a community leader. We have so many that grew up cheering for Craig and he truly is a real life super hero! If you don’t believe me watch this KHOU news clip: http://www.khou.com/story/sports/mlb/astros/2015/01/08/sunshine-kids-celebrate-biggios-hall-of-fame-induction/21427229/ To be able to make a difference in one child’s life is an amazing gift, but Craig has made a major impact in so many lives for the better that it is truly awe inspiring! He has been working with the Sunshine Kids for over 10 years and is their National Spokesman. This is an incredible organization. Their mission: “The Sunshine Kids Foundation adds quality of life to children with cancer by providing them with exciting, positive group activities, so they may once again do what kids are supposed to do . . . have fun and celebrate life!” So Houston has a lot to celebrate and we are honored that Craig and his wife, Patty, continue to call Houston home!
