When talking to clients about the details for their upcoming photo session I always ask the question “Do you have a wall in your home where this portrait will hang?” Many times this is a consideration they may have overlooked. But if there is a particular place this will be going we need to plan the size portrait to appropriately fit the space where it will hang. We offer custom and ready-made photo frames at Evin Thayer Studios. We have on hand an assortment of simple, contemporary, traditional and ornate frames. We keep ready-made photo frames in stock in standard sizes desk or shelf size frames: 4×6, 5×5, 5×7, 8×8, 8×10 and 11×14. Wall frames are custom ordered in sizes starting at around 16×20 all the way up to 40×60.
When selecting your frame, you will want to consider the space it will be going in and what your surrounding décor style reflects. You want it to compliment the décor but it doesn’t need to be an exact match; variety is fun and should reflect your multifaceted style! Personally, I have an eclectic mix in my home because this matches my personality, and the art and photography I have on my walls is a reflection of me. I usually let the portrait or artwork dictate the style frame I choose. Some of my artwork has a mat and fillet with Museum Glass to protect it from UV light and other possible hazards. Photographs can potentially fade or discolor through the years if located in a harsh light situation. We recommend protecting your portrait by using a conservation grade glass.
Mats come in a variety of colors and textures; our custom framer can help you in making selections that will compliment your portrait. Framing is the finishing touch for your photo. You want the framing to not only protect your portrait but you also want the style to be timeless so that you can enjoy it for years to come!
